Node Profiles of Symmetric Digital Search Trees

چکیده
We give a detailed analysis in distribution of the profiles of random symmetric digital search trees, which are in close connection with the performance of the search complexity of random queries in such trees. While the expected profiles have been analyzed for several decades, the analysis of the variance turns out to be very difficult and challenging, and requires the combination of many new techniques. We also establish by contraction method the asymptotic normality of the profiles in the range where the variance tends to infinity. As consequences of our results, we obtain a two-point concentration for the distributions of the height and the saturation level. AMS 2010 subject classifications. Probabilistic analysis of the asymmetric digital search trees
In this paper, by applying three functional operators the previous results on the (Poisson) variance of the external profile in digital search trees will be improved. We study the profile built over $n$ binary strings generated by a memoryless source with unequal probabilities of symbols and use a combinatorial approach for studying the Poissonized variance, since the probability distribution o...
متن کاملOn the Average Profile of Symmetric Digital
Digital Search Trees (DST) are one of the most popular data structures storing keys, usually represented by strings. The profile of a digital search tree is a parameter that counts the number of nodes at the same distance from the root. It is a function of the number of nodes and the distance from the root. Several, if not all, tree parameters such as height, size, depth, shortest path, and fil...
متن کاملOn the Average Profile of Symmetric Digital Search Trees∗
A digital search tree (DST) – one of the most fundamental data structures on words – is a digital tree in which keys (strings, words) are stored directly in (internal) nodes. The profile of a digital search tree is a parameter that counts the number of nodes at the same distance from the root. It is a function of the number of nodes and the distance from the root. Several tree parameters, such ...
متن کاملOptimal reconfiguration of radial distribution system with the aim of reducing losses and improving voltage profiles using the improved lightning search algorithm
In this paper, a modified version of the lightning search algorithm is proposed in order to find the optimal reconfiguration of the switches and locate and determine the optimal capacity of distributed generation sources in the distribution feeder. The main optimization goals are to reduce ohmic losses and voltage deviations in the standard 33-bus and 94-node IEEE feeders. The simulation result...
متن کاملA Characterization of Digital Search Trees from the Average Complexity Viewpoint
This paper smdies the average complexity of digital search trees from the successful search point of view. The average value of the successful search is used to evaluate the search time for a given record, the number of comparisons to insert a record, etc. The average value, however, is rather a poor measure and the need for higher moments of the successful search is obvious. For example, the v...
